May Happenings

Monday, May 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM
at Third UP Church

Dinner is 5:30 p.m. at Pizza Joe's in Croton.

The project is a stumpwork dragonfly taught by Marcy. Cost is $5.00 for threads, beads and wire.

You need to supply (in addition to your regular stitching stuff):

-- beading needle (for attaching beads)
-- size 14 or 16 tapestry needle (this large blunted needle will be used to sink the wires of the wings)
-- a 4 inch embroidery hoop
-- magnification of some kind, with light would be very helpful

-- the Lily Pond piece if you are stitching the dragonfly onto it (Sue is providing a plain piece of congress cloth if you don't)

We are not meeting at Sue's the rest of May for the Monday night stitch-ins.

I will have a sign-up sheet for the Arts Festival, which is May 26 - 27, at Cascade Park.   Even if you can only give us a few hours, that would be a help.   The hours are from 11 AM to 9 PM both days. We will be inside, so no weather worries like when we were downtown.   If you have something you would like us to display, please bring it to the May meeting.   We only have one 6 foot table reserved, so we don't need to overwhelm but we do need the eyes to watch our stuff. If you are planning to join us, remember to bring something to stitch-in-public.

March meeting moved to the 26th

Monday, March 26, 2012, 7:00 p.m.
 Third Presbyterian Church
1315 E. Washington Street

New Castle, PA 16101

Dinner is 5:30 p.m. at Pagley's Restaurant
1235 E. Washington St. New Castle
about a block from the Church
1. For March only - the regular third Monday meeting night has been moved to Monday, March 26, 2012. (The fourth Monday.)
2. If the parking lot at the Church is crowded, there is a parking lot across the street from the back entrance that we can use. There are other meetings scheduled at the church that night.
3. Sue will host the stitch-ins at her house on the first, second, and third Mondays in March. Those of us who go really appreciate the night out.
4. The Region seminar is in early May. We will be doing an opportunity basket. We get ½ the proceeds from our basket. The theme for the basket is "seasons". Sue Sizer will be putting the basket together for us. Sue will be accepting donations for the basket, such as threads, patterns, materials, that represent any of the four seasons. Get your donations to Sue in time for her to put the basket together.
5. We are participating in the Arts Fest, on Memorial Day weekend. We will be at Cascade Park, inside the Carousel. I will be looking for volunteers to help man the booth on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 & 27. We will have a small table, so we will not need a lot of items to display, but we will certainly put out anything we have. We will also have our postcards and brochures. More details as I get them.
6. The picnic will be the usual third Monday in June at Pearson Park. Jessie has "volunteered" to be in charge. More details to follow.
7. Don't forget that dues will be due by the end of May. Contact Jean to see what you owe since some get a reduction for selling tickets.
8. Remember when we sent Region 4 suggested correspondence courses? Well, none of ours was listed. If you are interested, the first is Beginning Hardanger.

I've been tardy for sometime now and intending to take pictures at our meetings but I kept forgetting.  So to make it up, here are  pics of our current WIP's.  I hope you enjoy them.

To begin, our group has been busy stitching bookmarks for the New Castle Public Library's 100th anniversary:

Lotsa yummy stuff ....

and I'm talking food here.  We had a great picnic/dinner meeting on June 21st.  The food was absolutely yummy.  The garage sale was fun.  And everyone had a good time.

Our next meeting will be on July 19th at 7 pm.  The project for the night will be finishing techniques for the library book marks.  Be sure to bring thread, needle and either a finished bookmark (or more) or a scrap piece of aida/evenweave with which to practice.  Several techniques will be taught.  We're looking for fast and easy finishing techniques so if you have a suggestion, be sure to mention it.

See you in July ......

Our Booth at the New Castle Arts Festival

Our Chapter participated in the first annual New Castle Arts Festival held on May 30th in beautiful downtown New Castle, Pennsylvania.  The weather was sunny, dry and warm with a nice breeze -- perfect for the event.

Members brought some of their favorite pieces to display.  There were samples of  gold work, cross stitch, canvas work, hardanger, and other techniques for the festival attendees to view.

A BIG "Thank You!" to DMC for generously donating little beginner cross stitch kits for us to hand out and teach anyone interested in learning.

Enjoy the pics and thanks for stopping by ......
